Features: This book is designed for music enthusiasts to systematically learn music theory and is also suitable for those seeking further studies in this area. In China, since the popularity of simplified notation is higher than that of staff notation, the content of this book, in addition to focusing on staff notation music theory, also covers general knowledge of simplified notation. To facilitate learning, the author has attempted to explain each music theory concept in plain language, accompanied by numerous typical score examples and intuitive diagrams. Additionally, each chapter includes relevant exercises, and the answers to these exercises are provided at the end of the book for reference. Furthermore, to aid readers in quick reference, a vocabulary index is included at the back of the book. The reason for including the words "New Concepts" in the title of this book is as follows:
1. Generally, music theory is perceived as a simple theoretical category, but this is not entirely the case. In reality, the issues involved in music theory are both simple and complex. The purpose of this book is to provide a pathway for self-learners to enter and improve their understanding of music theory.
2. The current music theory system in China originated from the Soviet Union. Out of respect for history and the existing system, the author has maintained this system as the main framework. In fact, other theoretical systems not only exist but also hold unique value. Therefore, for certain definitions or classifications of special phenomena, the author has intentionally provided related perspectives or explanations in the form of special columns. Even if a particular issue has not yet gained widespread recognition, learners will at least have a basic understanding. Thus, it can be said that the system of this book is open, not closed.
In summary, the purpose of introducing or proposing new concepts is not to complicate the theory but to make it easier for readers to understand and grasp more complex issues, thereby making the study of music theory less daunting. The author's ultimate goal is to make this book a helpful guide for beginners and those seeking to improve their music theory skills.
