History of the Development of Chinese Philosophy: Pre-Qin

Author: Ren Jiyou, Kong Fan, et al.
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 1983-10-01
Features: Chinese philosophy has a long and profound history, with nearly three thousand years of development. Establishing the history of Chinese philosophy as a scientific discipline has only been around fifty years. Over the past fifty years, the discipline of the history of Chinese philosophy has been influenced by the overall trends of China's political and economic development. At times, it has flourished and advanced, while at other times, it has stagnated and regressed. However, the overall trend has been forward, not backward. This book presents the authors' personal perspectives and does not aim to proportion the word count of each chapter equally. The authors believe that important or more extensively studied issues deserve more discussion, while less important or topics with little new insights that have already been thoroughly addressed by academia are given less or no coverage. As a result, the discussion of individual philosophers and philosophical schools varies in length, with some topics left more natural and less structured.
