Collected Essays on Classical Chinese Novels was first published in 1981, discussing Romance of the Three Kingdoms, reviewing Water Margin, analyzing Dream of the Red Chamber, and commenting on Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio. The works discussed are all well-known classical Chinese literary masterpieces, yet his insights often stand out, and his writing style is flexible and free of academic stiffness, making it an invaluable supplementary reading for those studying classical Chinese novels. Additionally, the book includes several other insightful research essays.
