Features: To meet the needs of teaching and scientific research, we have compiled and published the classical novel materials accumulated over the years. Here is printed "A Collection of Materials on Journey to the West." This collection is divided into five parts.
(1) The "Story" section, which collects materials related to the Journey to the West from after Xuanzang's pilgrimage to the West until the completion of "Journey to the West." By comparing these materials with the novel "Journey to the West," we can see some clues of how Wu Cheng'en drew upon literary heritage during the creative process.
(2) The "Author" section, which collects materials on the life, thoughts, and works of Wu Cheng'en.
(3) The "Editions" section, which collects materials on the editions of "Journey to the West."
(4) The "Criticism" section, which collects reviews of "Journey to the West" since its publication.
(5) The "Influence" section, which is further divided into three parts: social influence, influence on fiction, and influence on opera. This is not limited to the influence of other literary and artistic works on the theme of the Journey to the West after its publication. Most of the materials collected in this collection were from before the May Fourth Movement. The reason for their high value after the May Fourth Movement is their close relevance. The materials in each section of the collection are arranged in chronological order by the authors. There are one or two exceptions, which are due to their close relevance in content. Each piece of material is annotated with the era, author, volume number of the book it is from, and the edition it is based on.
