We live on a beautiful planet. The Earth's surface has land as well as oceans; on the land, there are mountains as well as plains. Different types of rocks are exposed on the mountains, while the plains are covered with thick soil. With the development of modern science, humans have been sent into space, and we have gained more understanding of the mountains, rivers, and the Earth's interior. We can now obtain rock samples from depths of several kilometers to a dozen kilometers underground and use various indirect detection methods to extend human senses deep into the Earth's crust, even deeper into the mantle, all the way to the Earth's core.
We cannot directly drill into the Earth's interior to observe it because the temperature is too high and the pressure is too great. However, the magical school bus created by Cole and Degen takes children on an imaginative journey, guiding them to drill into the Earth, observe it, and understand it during its rotation. The children distinguish between rocks and soil, see sedimentary rocks formed by deposition in water, igneous rocks that crystallize as magma rises from deep underground, and metamorphic rocks that have been transformed by long-term high temperatures and pressures. In the sedimentary rocks, they see fossils of animals and plants that lived on Earth in different eras. In the caves, they touch stalactites and stalagmites formed by water drips. On the volcanoes, they examine rocks from the Earth's depths, as if hearing the rumbling sounds from underground. The school bus even takes the children deep into the Earth's core, over to the other side of the planet, along the fiery volcanic channels, and back to the green world on the Earth's surface.
The entire story is paced with moments of tension and suspense, and its boundless imagination perfectly satisfies children's curiosity, sparking their interest. They don't feel like they're in a classroom because all the learning has been integrated into real-life scenarios.
Children, welcome to a magical journey. We hope you bring back the specimens you collect and review the Earth you've seen in class. When you grow up, work even harder to understand and explore this planet we all depend on.
