Sanma's purely Chinese name, as well as the cartoon-style child image that perfectly matches the name, immediately attracted widespread attention from readers. After that, Zhang Leping became unstoppable, creating a large number of Sanma comic works over the decades and publishing them in separate volumes multiple times. Sanma became a true comic star. The mischievous Sanma of the 1930s, the soldier and wanderer Sanma of the 1940s, and the later Sanma who gained a new life—all these images deeply moved generations of Chinese people. The historical depth and cultural significance of Sanma are unparalleled in the history of world comics. The entire collection includes all Sanma comic works created by Mr. Zhang Leping and is the most comprehensive new version in China. Sanma's Diary consists of various independent comic stories, covering a vast time span from 1950 to just before the author's death in 1992, scattered across newspapers and magazines. The name Sanma's Diary first appeared in the People's Daily on August 19, 1956. This work draws from the author's many experiences with children, presenting life lessons in small details with a touch of humor. The book also includes Sanma's Accusation, created in 1951.
