Features: The painter, drawing upon the spiritual essence of heaven and earth, combines it with the wondrous imagination of the human heart. Standing between heaven and earth, the painter is surrounded by all phenomena. With a fusion of thought and interest, suddenly and decisively, they wield the brush directly to pursue what they see, hear, and feel. With a sudden exclamation, they create works in myriad forms, resulting in masterpieces. Our country's painting has deep roots, dating back to the Jin dynasty's Gu Kaizhi. For over a thousand years, numerous schools have emerged, with outstanding masters in every generation. From the north to the south, talented craftsmen have appeared, each with distinct styles, forming their own unique traditions. The vast Yangtze River and the majestic Kunlun Mountains are not enough to describe their lofty heights. Later generations, wishing to learn about their details and marvels, find it difficult. I was born unable to paint, but by observing the works of masters from ancient and modern times, along with the inevitable changes of each era, I have come to understand that learning the rules leads to understanding the lack of rules. The predecessors have said that this art can fully express one's aspirations—so it is? When reading the masterpieces of past generations, one feels that their techniques are like mirage flowers and moon water—apparent yet elusive; while their lack of rules is like the boundless blue sky and clear water, vast and endless. Our society gathers the essence of ancient and modern works, selecting the best of the masters from each era, detailing their life stories, artistic theories, technical characteristics, and their legacy. This allows readers to see a glimpse and grasp the whole, understand one painter and grasp an entire era's painting, and through reading the collections of dozens of famous painters, gain an overview of our country's thousands of years of painting civilization. Due to the passage of time and frequent wars, countless famous paintings have been lost or damaged. There are masters whose paintings no longer exist, paintings that survive but are few in number, and painters who are famous but whose lives and deeds are not recorded. As a result, few illustrations and texts remain, and introductions cannot be complete. Thus, we compile them in collections of several works, which is better than having nothing at all. In the past, Ouyang Xun compiled Yiwen Lüji and said, "I wish to make every family rich in rare pearls and every person possess jade brocade, allowing the predecessors to compile their works, each expressing their own ideas." This collection embodies that spirit. The design style of this book is elegant, grand, and harmonious, with form and content complementing each other. The cover uses special paper, four-color printing, and Chinese calligraphy as the basic elements, combining literary symbols of varying sizes, traditional floral borders, and organic layouts to achieve a balance between motion and stillness. The thick lines at the top and bottom stabilize the ink strokes, while the thin lines on the sides contrast with the bold calligraphy, creating an overall effect of expansion and contrast. This book provides a comprehensive discussion of Wen Zhengming's life, friendships, literary creations, and the evolution of his artistic style, while also including excerpts from various critiques, selected art theories, and a painter's chronology, allowing you to fully understand this artist who excelled in poetry, calligraphy, and painting.
