Features: Dendrobium, a famous traditional Chinese medicine in China, has long been a source of confusion in Chinese medicinal materials due to the involvement of numerous plant species. The commercial names and specifications of Dendrobium-related medicinal materials have been extremely chaotic. Despite over half a century of research on Chinese medicinal Dendrobium, significant challenges remain. Over the years, the author has published several articles on Dendrobium-related medicinal materials based on their research and investigations, such as "Survey and Identification of Dendrobium Medicinal Materials in Shanghai" and "The History of Shizhu in Dendrobium Medicinal Materials." The author focuses on the evolution and development of ancient and modern Dendrobium, discussing the reasons for changes and the current situation. In recent years, the resources of the entire Dendrobium genus have been increasingly depleted, and medicinal Dendrobium plants have gained widespread attention. Therefore, the author compiled this book with the aim of promoting the rational development of medicinal Dendrobium and protecting Dendrobium genus resources. The book includes 51 species of Dendrobium plants, medicinal materials, and shizhu, with 41 cross-sections of stems for identification purposes. Additionally, it introduces several previously unrecorded varieties that are edible and medicinal, such as Huangshi Dendrobium, Henan Dendrobium, and Dianjing Dendrobium.
