The author's intention in "explaining extramarital affairs" is not to advocate for them, but rather because the phenomenon of extramarital affairs is widespread—it has become an inherent part of human marriage. Moreover, the phenomenon of "extramarital affairs" involves highly complex social, family, and personal factors. Considering its reality, the author advocates for approaching it with the right attitude, rather than escalating conflicts. There are many reasons for the formation of extramarital affairs, which can primarily be divided into two categories: First, it is caused by the traditional Chinese social system where men were superior to women, leading to a higher proportion of male extramarital affairs. Second, it stems from unmet needs in marriage, where the so-called needs refer not only to emotional or sexual desires but also include the need for security, trust, and other aspects. When extramarital affairs occur within a marriage, they inflict immense damage on the family and extend harm to the next generation. Because no relationship is more intimate than a marital one, and the greatest force maintaining intimacy is trust. If trust in a marital relationship disappears, it means the marriage is also on the brink of disintegration. Therefore, victims of extramarital affairs should not view the issue solely from a personal perspective but should understand it from the broader context of social culture, family history, and the process of the affair. This approach can not only minimize personal harm but also allow for a calm and rational examination of one's marriage.
