Features: Zheng Yimei (1895–1992) was a renowned expert in historical and literary anecdotes both in China and abroad. Since 1913, he published his writings in newspapers and magazines, and even in his advanced years, he continued to write, creating a remarkable legend in the literary world. His works primarily focused on the anecdotes of the literary circles during the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, drawing from a vast array of sources to create a grand collection, which has become invaluable for understanding the modern literary scene. In his early works, Zheng often used classical Chinese, concise and subtle, with an elegant charm; while in his later, masterful pieces, he blended vernacular Chinese with classical elements, seamlessly integrating knowledge and entertainment. These works, with their unique style of short essays and their accessible yet refined appeal, have won the admiration of readers from all walks of life. During his lifetime, Zheng Yimei compiled over forty books. After his passing, his family published additional works from his legacy. However, most of these standalone volumes were published many years ago and are now difficult to find. Now, Zhonghua Book Company, with the consent of Zheng’s family, has selected his representative works to compile the Zheng Yimei Works Collection, which will be published in standalone volumes to delight readers.
