Features: The Unified Examination for Ordinary Universities (Gaokao) has undergone new developments since the nationwide implementation of the "3X" exam format in 2002. In 2004, the scope of provincial-level paper-setting was expanded, breaking the tradition of a single national exam. Beneficial attempts in this regard were made in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Chongqing, Liaoning, Fujian, Hunan, Hubei, Guangdong, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang. This is in line with the needs of implementing quality-oriented education and advancing high school curriculum reform across regions, as well as a step toward further deepening Gaokao reforms. It is important to note that this does not alter the principle of a unified national exam, which remains subject to approval and oversight by the National Education Examination Administration Center. Therefore, Gaokao preparation efforts nationwide must adhere to the "Gaokao Examination Syllabus" and follow the unified approach to paper-setting to achieve effective results.
The series "What to Expect in This Year's Gaokao" aims to implement the principle of the Syllabus that "Gaokao assesses not only knowledge but also emphasizes the development of abilities." It proposes that the second stage of Gaokao preparation should focus on ability-building, revealing the ability requirements of each subject, and outlining the scope, approach, and procedural knowledge of problem-solving—key concepts that distinguish this series from other study materials. This aligns with the potential capabilities universities seek in students.
The series highlights four key features:
1. Authority: Authored by paper-setting experts and renowned subject specialists nationwide, the series directly interprets the latest principles, approaches, and methods of the Gaokao paper-setting authorities.
2. Targeted Approach: Based on extensive research into the challenges faced by candidates during the preparation phase and past exam mistakes, the series focuses on cultivating comprehensive and innovative abilities aligned with Gaokao objectives. It is ideal as a study guide for the second stage of Gaokao preparation.
3. Readability: To overcome aimlessness and enhance self-awareness in preparation, the series provides clear and concise explanations and exercises in plain language, structured for easy comprehension and retention.
4. Effectiveness: To curb the "sea of problems" and reduce redundant efforts, the series includes carefully selected comprehensive ability exercises and parallel papers with designs, difficulty levels, and equivalence comparable to Gaokao questions, serving as a model for broader learning.
"What to Expect in This Year's Gaokao" is divided into five sub-series: Chinese, Mathematics, English, Science Comprehensive, and Humanities Comprehensive.
