Features: Zheng Yuanjie was born in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province, in 1955. His father was originally from Linfen, Shanxi, and his mother from Shaoxing, Zhejiang. In 1961, Zheng Yuanjie moved to Beijing with his parents. While attending Madian Primary School in Beijing, he was forced to interrupt his studies due to the Cultural Revolution of the Proletarian class. His actual highest education level is fourth grade of primary school, while his false education level is graduation from primary school. From 1970 to 1976, he served in the army, working as a maintenance technician for J-6 fighter jets in the Air Force. After demobilization, he worked as a laborer for five years. Later, he became an editor at a magazine in Beijing. In 1988, he was granted the senior title of associate editor with only a primary school education, breaking the norm in Beijing. He has since resigned and become an independent writer, earning a living through writing. He is proficient in using 500 Chinese characters and can perform basic arithmetic with the help of a calculator. Zheng Yuanjie began literary in 1977. The characters he created—Pipilù, Luxisi, Shuke, Beta, and Luoke—have millions of readers in China, including adults, and his fairy tales are hailed as "suitable for everyone in the family." The total print run of his fairy tale publications has exceeded 50 million copies. In mainland China, fewer people under the age of 30 are unfamiliar with Pipilù, Luxisi, Shuke, and Beta. In 1985, the monthly magazine Fairy Tale King – Zheng Yuanjie’s Works was launched, dedicated to publishing Zheng Yuanjie’s fairy tales. It remains popular to this day, with its highest monthly circulation reaching over a million copies. This pure literary monthly supported entirely by one author’s works has been sustained for 20 years, a rare phenomenon in the history of literary publishing in China and beyond. In 1991, the monthly Fairy Tale King – Zheng Yuanjie’s Works was also launched in Taiwan, where his works have also gained great popularity. Main Works: The Complete Fairy Tales of Zheng Yuanjie (33 volumes). Novels: Biochemical Nanny, The White Guest, Wisdom Teeth, Golden Thumb, Germ Concentration Camp, Ghost Car, and others. Pipilù, Luxisi, Luoke, Shuke, and Beta have been registered with the Administration for Industry and Commerce, becoming legally protected trademarks. In January 2005, Pipilù, a picture book written solely by Zheng Yuanjie, was published.
