Features: The dozens of short articles collected here, though diverse, are mostly focused on the Taiping Rebellion and the Boxer Movement. The Taiping Rebellion and the Boxer Movement were the two largest peasant revolutionary movements in modern China and held a very important position in modern Chinese history. My generation of scholars studying modern Chinese history has paid more attention to peasant movements, which is also evident in this collection of my essays. Therefore, I decided to use the title of the article "Chinese Peasants and Modern Revolution" included in this book as the book's title. At the end, there are a few reflective essays, mainly recalling some of my teachers, which can also demonstrate that my approach to "governing officials" is rooted in learning from the right sources.
