Features: This book systematically introduces and evaluates 28 representative works on American military intelligence theory. The content covers macro-level research such as intelligence systems, intelligence control, intelligence history, the evolution of warfare and the changing role of military intelligence, and intelligence failures, as well as micro-level research on the rationale of military intelligence analysis, the psychology of military intelligence analysis, and the fundamental concepts, nature, functions, and workflows of military intelligence. In recent years, a large number of military intelligence theory works have been published in the West, particularly in the United States, covering all relevant theoretical issues. This book selects 24 representative works for the first time and categorizes them into "History, Strategy, and Military Intelligence," "Military Intelligence and War, National Security," "Military Intelligence Analysis," and "Politics, Culture, and Intelligence." The book strives to objectively evaluate the original ideas while accurately introducing them, aiming to achieve the effect of "learning from others to improve oneself." The structure of the book closely follows the content of the original American military intelligence works. We present and discuss the works in four parts: Part I mainly involves the relationship between military intelligence and military strategy, as well as the historical status of military intelligence; Part II focuses on the relationship between military intelligence and national security, as well as the role of military intelligence in war; Part III; Last Part introduces the main debates on intelligence within the United States. Each work is accompanied by a dedicated review, which is the core part of the book. Additionally, the translated table of contents of the reviewed works and some typical chapters that we consider representative are included as appendices. This approach allows readers to sample a variety of works and gain a glimpse of the broader landscape, while also providing mutual reference and corroboration with the review sections.
