Features: China’s History and Culture (Volume II) is a teaching resource developed in response to the current reforms in basic education curricula. It is designed for teachers and students of the "Comprehensive Humanities Education" major (referred to as "Humanities Education" at the undergraduate level) and related disciplines, providing them with a means to study and explore modern Chinese history and culture. The guiding principle behind the book’s compilation is to set it against the backdrop of history and society, with the development of modern Chinese history as the vertical axis and the evolution of modern Chinese culture as the horizontal axis. It aims to organically integrate history and culture, allowing readers to appreciate culture within a historical context and interpret history through cultural development. In light of this, during the writing process, we followed the curriculum reform philosophy outlined in the Full-Time Compulsory Education History and Society Curriculum Standards (First Edition) (Trial Version) issued by the Ministry of Education, structuring the textbook framework along a chronological thread. In terms of content design, we adhered to the principles of authenticity, clarity, and accessibility, striving for novelty, conciseness, and engaging interest while seeking the optimal balance of humanity, comprehensiveness, and practicality. Each chapter begins with concise text summarizing the main content or core ideas. Additionally, each chapter includes 3–7 thought-provoking discussion questions for reference during teaching. At the end of the book, a bibliography is provided for easy reference.
