1. Why Teach Children About Sex?
"The ancient sage said, 'Food and sex are natural human instincts.' This quote reveals the common physiological and psychological of humans, that is, sexual desire is as natural as appetite and accompanies a person throughout their life. From the moment a child is born, they display their gender and need maternal affection and closeness. Even during the breastfeeding stage, they may experience unconscious sexual impulses, and their penises may automatically become erect. By the age of two or three, they begin to explore questions like, 'Where do I come from?' 'Am I a boy or a girl?' 'Why do girls squat when they urinate?' As they enter primary school, they may also feel uneasy about various aspects of their sexual development. Most parents tend to avoid, hide, lie, or deceive when it comes to these sexual issues. But as children grow older, they realize their parents have been lying to them. They will inevitably seek answers on their own, and the sexual knowledge they obtain from peers is often mutual or incorrect and one-sided. If they are misled by ill-intentioned adults, the consequences could be sexual mistakes or confusion that affect their physical and mental health. In such cases, isn't it unjust for parents to blame their children? If sexual education had been provided earlier, children wouldn't have ended up this way. The problem is that many parents still have doubts about actively teaching their children about sex:
One concern is, 'Teaching children about sex at such a young age might induce them to make mistakes due to their curiosity.' In reality, children's curiosity grows with age, and their desire to learn about sex is a natural and unavoidable impulse. If you don't tell them, they will seek answers through various channels on their own, as proven by facts. Here is an example of a survey result: A test on sex knowledge was conducted for sixth-grade students. The question was, 'Why do people have children?' Students were asked to answer based on what they knew. Similar answers were grouped and analyzed. After excluding blank responses, the results showed that among the 80 male students, 32 answered correctly, and among the 87 female students, 27 answered correctly. Most of their answers were largely accurate, with some being so detailed that teachers were surprised, and a few even used the term 'sexual behavior.' This demonstrates that modern primary school students already have a surprisingly rich understanding of this topic. Below, we will examine the students' answers.
