Features: In the clinical practice of dermatology and venereology, we have increasingly realized that the diagnosis of some diseases can be difficult solely based on clinical manifestations. It is crucial to complement clinical diagnosis with necessary laboratory tests. However, not every dermatology department has access to a specialized laboratory, especially in primary hospitals, which may only have a basic microscope. Therefore, it is vital to utilize existing microscopes to assist clinicians in confirming diagnoses, reducing misdiagnoses, and achieving effective treatment. With this purpose in mind, we decided to compile a (direct examination atlas) on dermatology and venereology. This book primarily features valuable photographs accumulated over the years in our clinical work, accompanied by brief textual explanations to assist clinicians (particularly in primary hospitals) and laboratory technicians in dermatology and venereology, thereby better serving a wider patient population. The book mainly covers over 30 laboratory tests for dermatology and venereology, supplemented by over 100 images, including fungal skin diseases, parasitic dermatoses, bacterial dermatoses, bullous skin diseases, connective tissue diseases, and venereal diseases. The pathogens include dermatophytes, yeasts, certain deep-seated fungi, spirochetes, parasites, bacteria, and some special tests such as lupus cells and pemphigus cells. In terms of structure, we systematically cover topics such as simple specimen collection methods, experimental materials, staining techniques, classification and definitions of various pathogens, diagnostic criteria for the diseases they cause, and diagrammatic illustrations of microscopic findings. This book is suitable for clinical doctors and personnel engaged in laboratory work to read.
