Features: After systematically explaining the principles and construction methods of fabric organization, this book further discusses the weaving process of jacquard fabrics. It elaborates on the pattern design of various jacquard fabrics according to the characteristics of silk fabrics, organized by chapters. This book is intended as a textbook for textile design majors and silk weaving programs in higher education institutions. It can also be used by textile design engineers and technical personnel. Major and secondary vocational schools can select portions of the content for professional teaching materials. When selecting chapters, institutions are not restricted by the book's arrangement. The book was first published in 1982 and has been reprinted multiple times since. The revision of the second edition began in 1987, with discussions held in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai regions to gather extensive feedback, leading to the formulation of a revision outline. The first edition was edited by Yan Jieying as the chief editor and Gu Ping as the deputy editor. Contributing authors included Yan Jieying, Gu Ping, Qu Qiuming, Qian Xiaoping, Chen Guangming, Wei Yufen, Zhu Xinpeng, Zhang Yaoming, Xu Xinyue, and Zhang Zhongxiong, among others. Fan Jigen, Ru Ailin, and Chen Weiru were responsible for the illustrations and assistance. The second edition was also edited by Yan Jieying as the chief editor and Gu Ping as the deputy editor. Contributing authors included: Qu Qiuming (Introduction and Chapters 1–4), Gu Ping (Chapters 7–9, 15–16, Sections 4–5 of Chapter 17, and Chapter 19), Yan Jieying (Chapters 10, 12–14, 18, and 20–21), Wei Yufen (Chapters 5–6 and Sections 1–3 of Chapter 17), and Zhu Xinpeng (Chapter 11). Chen Weiru provided the illustrations, with Chen Yan and Yao Yuanyuan assisting. The authors express their gratitude. In the second edition, additional content was added to the Introduction and fabric geometric structure, and new topics such as loop fabrics, double-layer floating warp jacquard velveteen, and multicolored flat carpets were included. Some content was also adjusted or removed locally. For example, high-loft fabrics, lacking special weaving principles, were merged into chapters on double-warp, double-weft, and double-layer fabrics. Topics such as automated weaving processes and silk fabric design were excluded as they are covered in separate courses, and thus no dedicated chapters were written in this book. Other chapters were also partially revised and supplemented to enhance the systematic nature of the content.
