Features: The purpose of this book is to introduce fundamental principles and techniques of pharmaceutical sciences in drug dosage forms and delivery systems to pharmacy students. It comprehensively discusses the interrelationships between pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical principles, product design, formulation, production, and clinical applications of various dosage forms. Since its first publication 30 years ago, this book has maintained its distinctive features, with each chapter written to meet the requirements of introducing knowledge in the respective research areas to students. As this textbook is typically used in early professional courses, it also includes important introductions such as: the historical development of drugs and pharmacy, the role of pharmacists in contemporary practice, standards of the U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP) and National Formulary (NF), the measurement systems and techniques of pharmaceutical sciences, and the conventional process for the approval and marketing of formulations by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The 7th edition is a successful revision based on previous versions, reorganizing chapters into seven parts according to traditional pharmaceutical teaching methods to facilitate systematic discussion based on the physical forms and characteristics of dosage forms. The "Brief Introduction to Physical Pharmacy," introduced in the 6th edition to emphasize the importance of pharmaceutical principles, has been expanded in this new edition. Other significant changes include: strengthening considerations of formulation design and prescription, adding a chapter on current drug preparation quality management regulations, incorporating clinical considerations in various dosage forms, and introducing a new chapter titled "New Dosage Forms and Novel Drug Delivery Technologies." Additionally, each chapter in the new edition now includes a "Chapter Overview" to aid teaching.
