Polymer Science and Technology Vocabulary in English and Chinese

Author: Zhang Zhongyue
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 1997-12-01
Features: Revitalizing the nation through science and education, people-centered, knowledge-based, and academic and technological exchange as the bond connecting people with knowledge. After China's entry into the WTO, this relationship will become even closer, broader, and more urgent. To meet the practical needs of the development of polymer science and technology in China and to contribute internationally, we have revised and supplemented the previously published English-Chinese Dictionary of Polymer Science and Technology and compiled this Chinese-English Dictionary of Polymer Science and Technology. This is a newly creative reference book, not merely a Chinese counterpart of the previous one. It is based on a comprehensive collection of traditional terms in fields such as polymer chemistry, polymer physics, polymer engineering and processing, polymer materials (including plastics, rubbers, fibers, adhesives, coatings, and composite materials), and their shaping and processing. It covers both scientific and technical terms, as well as research and development terminology. In traditional polymer terminology, it strives to be exhaustive, and in innovative terms, it aims to be pioneering. It can provide assistance and reference for polymer professionals in academic exchanges, business work, and improving reading and writing skills, as well as for those engaged in related fields with polymer expertise. Currently, the annual global production of synthetic polymer materials has exceeded 150 million tons, and by volume, it has long surpassed steel and non-ferrous metals. Natural polymer materials (such as those involved in human daily life—clothing, food, housing, and transportation)—which are difficult to accurately quantify—are even more abundant. Therefore, the impact of polymer science and technology on human civilization and economic development is immeasurable. For this reason, during the compilation of this book, we paid special attention to tracking new terms and phrases, striving to be inclusive. For polymeric terms with multiple meanings or multiple terms for the same meaning within different branches of the field, we adopted a principle of listing multiple terms and omitting overly specialized ones, aiming to continuously improve and refine the book in practical use. The book contains approximately 60,000 entries, covering all aspects of polymer science and technology. It can serve as a reference and reference book for polymer professionals and those in related fields.
