Features: Running is the foundation of all sports and a form of exercise that everyone can participate in. Since the birth of competitive sports, the ability to run faster has been a universally admirable skill for humans. Over the past few decades, the significant increase in road races also reflects the popularity of running. Almost every major city in the world has its own "city marathon," with thousands of participants. Although almost everyone is naturally capable of running, not everyone can become a great race runner. Excellent runners need to combine their talent, systematic training, and a reasonable lifestyle to showcase their skills. Furthermore, top athletes even require a deep understanding of their physical capabilities, how to train and prepare for competitions, how to meticulously observe physical fatigue and injuries, as well as knowledge about their surroundings—such as coaches, physiotherapists, and doctors—which are essential for athletes. The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) is the governing body for running events. Therefore, we are very pleased to see the publication of the "Running" manual, as it embodies the outstanding contributions of scientists and experts from various research fields around the world to the sport of running. We believe this manual will provide valuable information to athletes of all levels, helping them run faster, better, and safer.
