Features: Shanghai Music Publishing House decided to publish a large series of books titled "A Series of Books on Chinese Opera Music Appreciation," and "Appreciation of Huangmei Opera Singing" was honorably included in the first batch of publications. They commissioned me to write it, and I happily accepted this task. After years of work in music creation and theory, I deeply realize that to ensure the sustainable and prosperous development of an art form, it is absolutely essential to write popular and systematic popular reading materials for the general public. Although the book is popular, the quality must be guaranteed. The reason why the traditional folk opera "Hunting Grass" is included in this book is because many tunes of Huangmei Opera originate from folk songs, mountain songs, small tunes, and folk dances, and "Hunting Grass" retains a very strong folk dance and song character. As early as 1952, when "Hunting Grass" was performed in Shanghai, music master He Luting and famous playwright Zhang Tuo praised it in newspapers, and it was also loved by a wide audience. After that, many art troupes across the country went to Anhui specifically to study "Hunting Grass." Both Shanghai and Anhui have published the script and musical scores of this play. Today, this play is still actively performed on stage.
