To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Deng Xiaoping, the architect of China's Reform and Opening-Up, the Third Research Department of the Research Institute of the History of the Communist Party of China held the "Academic Symposium on Deng Xiaoping and China's Reform and Opening-Up" in Wenzhou, Zhejiang. The symposium focused on discussing the initial phase of China's Reform and Opening-Up and Deng Xiaoping's leading core role in this historical process. Over 20 scholars from the Research Institute of the History of the Communist Party of China, local research departments of the history of the Communist Party of China, and some academic institutions in Beijing participated in the symposium. This book is a collection of papers from the symposium and also represents a part of the achievements of the ongoing series of thematic research projects on Reform and Opening-Up. The 18 academic papers included in the book focus on exploring the initial phase of China's Reform and Opening-Up and the leading core role Deng Xiaoping played in this historical process.
