Features: This book summarizes the historical process of agricultural development in the western region and systematically elaborates on practical agricultural historical issues such as agricultural management strategies, resettlement and reclamation, water conservancy construction, drought-resistant farming, ethnic relations between pastoralists and farmers, and the expansion of agriculture and changes in the ecological environment. In recent years, the proposal and implementation of the western development strategy have led to a rapid increase in research on the realities and historical issues of the western region. However, most published papers focus on either period-specific or regional studies, primarily addressing the relationship between agricultural development and ecological environments, which is far from sufficient. In line with the demands of the times, systematically summarizing and researching the history of agricultural development in the western region is both a way for agricultural history studies to stay close to reality and a genuine need for modern agricultural development in the western region. To meet this need, the authors conducted an in-depth study of the history of agricultural economic development in China's western region. By drawing on modern research on western development and published works on the history of western development in recent years, they compiled this book, Research on the History of Agricultural Development in Western China. Based on a comprehensive grasp of historical materials and the absorption of previous research achievements, the book breaks through the framework and content limitations of traditional agricultural history and economic development history studies. It establishes a research system for the history of agricultural development in the western region by starting from the important issues encountered in modern agricultural development in the western region. The book covers the period from ancient times to the near present, divided into eight chapters based on historical periods, aiming to reflect the characteristics and fluctuations of agricultural development in each era. The main content of each section includes agricultural management strategies, resettlement and reclamation, water conservancy construction, the introduction and promotion of improved varieties, crop cultivation, drought-resistant farming, livestock production, agricultural management, the expansion of agricultural regions, and changes in the ecological environment. Based on historical realities and the availability of materials, certain aspects are selectively included or excluded to reflect the practical significance of agricultural history studies.
