This book adopts a positive and cautious approach to introduce cutting-edge knowledge and content in this field. Based on the characteristics of this discipline as an applied basic science, it fully emphasizes practicality, ensuring the systematic and comprehensive nature of the knowledge while striving to align the content with the needs of current practical work. Building on the previously published planning teaching materials for traditional Chinese medicine majors in higher education, this book has undergone significant adjustments to the content. Each important type of chemical component is introduced in chapters organized according to its biosynthetic pathway. Chapters have been established for phenylpropanoid compounds, triterpenoid compounds, steroidal compounds, tannins, and more. Additionally, to facilitate students' understanding of issues related to traditional Chinese medicine compound research, a chapter on the study of the pharmacodynamic material basis of traditional Chinese medicine compounds has been added. Furthermore, specific adjustments and revisions have been made to the content of each chapter.
