Publisher:
Publish Date: 2003-10-02
Features: In the current field of Western history of psychology, there are mainly two approaches to writing the history and system of psychology: the old history and the new history. The old history is a top-down history, focusing on great figures and major events, known as the history of heroes. This chronological approach, by describing the struggles and achievements of individual psychologists, inspires readers. The new history is a bottom-up history. It attempts to describe the lives of the nameless masses overlooked by the old history, concentrating on the social background, cultural origins, and human activities surrounding the founding and development of psychology, known as the spirit of the times. This chronological approach diminishes the role of individuals, viewing the history of psychology as something created by non-personal forces. The author of this book attempts to explore a model of the new history style.
