Features: Promoting coordinated regional economic and social development is a major strategy for China in the new century. After more than two decades of reform and opening-up, the eastern coastal regions, benefiting from the early effects of reform and opening-up, have rapidly risen and become the main driving force behind China's high-speed economic growth. The implementation of the Western Development Strategy has led to high growth rates in the western regions. The state has launched the transformation project for the old industrial bases in the northeast, creating favorable conditions for these regions to accelerate their development. In contrast, the overall economic development of the central region has shown a clear slowdown. Especially, the "three rural" issues in the central region have become increasingly severe, industrial restructuring has become increasingly difficult, and the phenomenon of resource depletion has become more prominent. Without development strategies and policy measures that transcend the traditional framework, the central region may become a sinkhole in China's overall economic development. General Secretary Hu Jintao emphasized during his inspection tour in Hunan that cadres and the public in the central region should firmly enhance their sense of responsibility and urgency for faster development, firmly establish and implement the scientific outlook on development, explore practical development ideas, continuously inject new impetus into development through reform, and strive to promote faster and better economic and social development. Premier Wen Jiabao pointed out at the second session of the 10th National People's Congress that accelerating the development of the central region is an important aspect of coordinated regional development. The state supports the central region in leveraging its geographical and economic advantages, accelerating the pace of reform and opening-up and development, strengthening the construction of modern agriculture and important grain production bases, improving infrastructure, developing competitive manufacturing and high-tech industries, raising the level of industrialization and urbanization, and promoting the rise of the central region. All of these provide important guiding principles for the development of the central region. This book is a collection of research papers on the development strategy and countermeasures for the current situation of the central region, conducting a detailed investigation and research on the development of China's central region, and comprehensively exploring the current development strategy and countermeasure strategy.
