The book Chinese History and Culture does not systematically teach Chinese history but focuses on introducing the origins and development of various cultural phenomena closely related to tourism. Based on this consideration, the textbook selects nineteen topics, divided into nineteen chapters. Chapter 1 is a general introduction, outlining the basic characteristics of ancient Chinese society and Chinese history and culture, as well as attitudes toward them. The following eighteen chapters detail eighteen topics. Each topic is relatively independent but closely interconnected. From marriage, family, and state governance to trade, food and clothing, writing, literature, Confucian classics, religion, morality, folklore, and festivals, they form a concise and clear of ancient Chinese social life. In the narration of the textbook content, some original excerpts from historical documents are appropriately cited. This is done to ensure that the discussed cultural phenomena are well-sourced and to provide students with reading clues for further exploration into broader knowledge areas. Since it is intended for use as a textbook for college and university students, it cannot be as simple as popular reading material. Therefore, although the textbook covers fewer topics, it contains a high level of knowledge and maintains a certain academic standard. This approach provides teachers with ample room for elaboration and interpretation, while also helping students expand their knowledge, improve their theoretical understanding, and cultivate their ability to think critically. The basic content of this book primarily reflects the author's years of research experience and also incorporates the latest research findings from experts in various fields of academia. Due to the limitations of the textbook format, it is not feasible to cite all sources in the text, so only the main reference books are listed at the end of the book.
