Features: An Analysis of Exam Content and Supplementary Exercises (Level 5, 2nd Edition) is published by Higher Education Press. In 1999, the National Education Examination Center of the Ministry of Education introduced the Public English Test System (PETS) to the public. Its main purposes are: (1) to rationalize the relationships among existing English exams; (2) to provide the public with a clear and scientifically and normatively high examination system with defined relationships between levels, to more fully assess candidates' language proficiency and better serve China's reform and opening-up and the expansion of foreign exchanges. This system includes five levels and can meet the needs of different English proficiency levels. To help candidates better understand and prepare for this exam, we thoroughly studied the syllabi and requirements of PETS exams at all levels and organized experienced college English teachers to write An Analysis of Exam Content and Supplementary Exercises (PETS Series for National English Proficiency Tests, Levels 1-5). The book has been widely welcomed by readers since its publication. With the revision of the PETS exam syllabus, we have also adjusted and revised the content of An Analysis of Exam Content and Supplementary Exercises to better serve readers. Following the same format as the previous edition, each level is divided into three chapters. Chapter 1 covers test design, key points analysis, and precautions candidates should take when answering questions. It is written by authoritative figures with in-depth research on each level of the exam, providing a detailed analysis of the basic rationale behind the test design and the key points of each section, as well as pointing out the precautions candidates should take based on their actual situation. Chapter 2 offers targeted exercises for each section, arranged according to the structure of the exam papers. It allows readers to assess their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, as well as their mastery of relevant language knowledge, so they can identify and address issues promptly. After this chapter, there are transcripts of the listening sections and answers to all sections for reference. Chapter 3 is a mock exam paper, with difficulty, skill requirements, and key points that closely resemble the actual exam, allowing readers to assess their overall English proficiency and estimate their performance in the official exam. The accompanying CD-ROM and tapes include the listening materials from Chapters 2 and 3, recorded by British and American experts familiar with each level, to help readers practice listening. Due to time constraints and the limitations of the authors, errors are inevitable. We welcome valuable feedback from experts, teachers, and learners to make revisions for future editions.
