Features: To adapt to the rapid development of higher education in China in the new century and meet the requirements of mathematics education for talent cultivation in the new era, which emphasizes broadening the scope and enhancing adaptability, we have written this book in accordance with the spirit and requirements of the Ministry of Education's "Reform Plan for the Content and Curriculum System of Mathematics in Higher Education Towards the 21st Century" and the "Teaching Requirements for Undergraduate Mathematics Foundation Courses in Engineering" (Revised Edition). Combining years of teaching research and practice, and drawing on the strengths of various schools, we have compiled this book. In the writing process, while adhering to the systematic and scientific nature of this discipline, we have strived to make the content concise and focused, fully reflecting quality-oriented education, highlighting teaching philosophy, and implementing teaching principles and intuitive teaching methods that proceed from simple to complex and build knowledge step by step. We emphasize both the explanation of fundamental concepts, theories, and methods of probability and statistics and the training of students' basic computational skills as well as their ability to analyze and solve problems. This book covers basic probability theory content such as random events and their probabilities, random variables and their distributions, the digital characteristics of random variables, the law of large numbers, and the central limit theorem, as well as basic mathematical statistics content such as parameter estimation, hypothesis testing, and linear regression analysis. Each section is followed by exercises, including both basic practice questions and some comprehensive exercises, to improve readers' problem-solving skills. The answers to the exercises are provided at the end of the book. This book can be used as a textbook or teaching reference for the "Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics" course in higher technical and engineering colleges.
