Features: The Institute of EU Law at Southwest University of Political Science and Law was established in June 2004, with its predecessor being the Center for German Law Research at Southwest University of Political Science and Law, founded in October 2000. The founder and current Director of the Institute, Wu Yue, is a PhD holder from the University of Frankfurt am Main, Germany, and is currently a professor and doctoral supervisor at Southwest University of Political Science and Law, as well as the editor-in-chief of the "German Legal Textbook Translation Series" and the "China-EU Legal Research Series." It is always a pleasure to write a preface after completing a difficult task. Taking this opportunity, we need to briefly outline the entire project process and express our gratitude to those who contributed to it. As the readers will realize, the case-based analysis of 13 European legal systems involved the collaboration of 22 scholars. This required a considerable amount of time to complete. This joint endeavor began six years ago. At a conference held in Trento, Italy, we discussed and reached consensus on issues such as the selection of reporters and contributors, the design of case questionnaires, and the refinement of working methods. In 1996, we began drafting reports by country and completed them between 1997 and 1999. In the following years, we continued with research, editing, and revisions. However, it was only in 2001 that we completed the chapters of the introduction and the comparative law reviews by the editors. Although this delay is normal, we recognize the risks it may pose: that recent developments or discussions in individual European legal systems may not have been cited. Nevertheless, the editors of this book and the reporters of each country's law can assure the readers that no substantive changes in the law have been overlooked, and the content reflects current trends and is reliable and accurate. Important developments, such as the implementation of Germany's Modernization Act for the Law of Obligations in 2002 and most recent judgments of the European Court of Justice, have been duly considered and incorporated. Therefore, we believe that a true picture of the fundamental principles of pure economic loss in European law has been presented.
