"Prescription" in medicine refers to the medication prescribed by a doctor to a patient. Different diseases or the same disease with varying severity cannot use the same prescription. Similarly, to exercise scientifically, improve health levels, and prevent or treat diseases, one must also "prescribe the right medicine." Therefore, an exercise prescription is a form of prescription used by physicians to specify the content, exercise volume, and intensity of exercise for physical therapy patients or fitness participants. It is a form of guidance that directs people to exercise purposefully, systematically, and scientifically. Alternatively, an exercise prescription is a quantified guidance plan provided to exercise participants based on physical assessments, according to the principles of scientific fitness, and tailored to their physical needs. Exercise prescriptions represent the application of modern science and technology to the field of physical exercise, serve as an effective means of controlling the exercise process, and are one of the directions for the scientific development of physical exercise. In many developed sports countries worldwide, they have been given high attention, with specialized institutions established for research. Under the guidance of an effective exercise prescription, exercise can achieve the following purposes:
(1) Enhance health. First, prevent diseases, especially lifestyle-related illnesses; second, improve physical condition and enhance adaptability to the environment.
(2) Improve physical function. It can guide exercise to strengthen qualities and athletic abilities such as muscle strength, endurance, explosive power, agility, skill, balance, and flexibility.
(3) Treat diseases. By using exercise as a rehabilitation therapy and strictly following the prescription, safety during exercise can be effectively improved, and the risk of accidents and harm minimized.
