Features: The author has been engaged in BEC exam training teaching at Shanghai New Oriental. Due to frequent contact with a large number of BEC candidates, he has a clear understanding of the problems they face during exam preparation. The fundamental of English learning is vocabulary acquisition, and this is no exception for BEC learning. Taking BEC3 as an example, it requires candidates to master at least 5,500 business-related professional terms. Due to their specialization, candidates generally find it challenging to grasp the business-related professional vocabulary emphasized in the BEC exam during preparation. As a result, two extreme situations often arise: either candidates fail to prepare for business-related vocabulary at all and rely solely on their existing English vocabulary to tackle the business-oriented BEC exam, which inevitably leads to unsatisfactory results; or they resort to "word-salad" tactics by memorizing a large number of business terms, which lacks focus and proves inefficient, ultimately reducing learning effectiveness. Moreover, the various types of business English teaching materials available in the market are not highly targeted toward BEC. Therefore, I believe that candidates urgently need a targeted vocabulary guide specifically designed for BEC preparation. The publication of this book aims to summarize these aspects and help candidates overcome the challenges of BEC vocabulary learning. The book has the following features:
1. Highly Targeted Vocabulary Selection: The vocabulary in this book is derived from two main sources:
(1) All business-related professional terms found in BEC exam questions from publicly published materials.
(2) Common business-related terms encountered in practical business scenarios. Many candidates struggle with understanding the business-specific meanings of words they recognize, which creates significant obstacles in comprehension. By studying this book, candidates can accurately grasp the meanings of business vocabulary.
2. Highly Targeted Example Sentences: The example sentences accompanying each entry are either taken from BEC exam questions in publicly published materials or sourced from authentic Western business publications and scenarios. These sentences are carefully selected. I believe these genuine business English examples will better enhance candidates' understanding of business vocabulary.
3. Usable as a Reference Tool: This book is designed as a business vocabulary reference tool. While considering the needs of BEC exam review, it also includes vocabulary required for daily business practices in the West. Therefore, even for English learners not immediately preparing for the BEC exam, this book serves as an excellent reference for learning business vocabulary. It is highly beneficial for broadening learners' perspectives and expanding their vocabulary.
4. Combines Fun and Learning: Vocabulary learning in English has long been considered tedious and monotonous. To minimize the boredom of vocabulary study, this book incorporates a focus on fun and humor in its example sentences. I believe this will stimulate the interest of English enthusiasts in vocabulary learning, thereby increasing motivation and efficiency.
