This tutorial provides systematic and diverse extracurricular reading materials for non-English majors, aiming to cultivate students' proficiency in using reading skills, understanding texts accurately, expanding their knowledge and cultural horizons, and enhancing their reading comprehension and appreciation.
Book Framework: The tutorial is divided into six volumes: Each volume consists of 8 units, with 3 reading articles per unit, totaling 24 articles. Each unit includes the following five sections:
1. An Introduction is provided before each text to stimulate students' interest in reading and give them a preliminary understanding of the main content and cultural background of the article.
2. New words and language difficulties in each text are presented in marginal notes to promptly eliminate comprehension obstacles for students, allowing them to focus on discourse-level understanding.
3. The selection of articles in each unit aligns with the themes of the corresponding unit in Comprehensive Tutorial, aiming to provide students with more "input" on the same topic, which naturally also helps with related "output." The other two articles cover different themes.
4. The tutorial includes various exercise formats such as multiple-choice questions, true-or-false questions, English-Chinese translation exercises, short-answer questions, vocabulary-definition matching questions, and discussion questions. Each text is followed by three or four exercise formats. The purpose of the exercises is to guide students in further understanding the text and clarifying language difficulties, thereby improving their analytical and summarizing abilities.
