Features: This series of textbooks is one of the design and art education series compiled by the School of Design at the China Academy of Art. The original plan was to compile a total of 50 books to form a scale and influence the design and art community. Although I initiated this project, I felt the responsibility was too great to bear and believed that a diverse and flourishing approach was better. Therefore, no chief editor was appointed, and each article bears its own responsibility. The merits and flaws will be judged by public opinion. Today, the design market is booming, everyone is busy, and attitudes are ( means restless and impetuous in this context). High-quality textbooks are scarce, and the lack of theory leads to the emptiness of design, which is an undeniable fact. Colleagues like Xiaoqi were able to squeeze time like a sponge and spare the effort to compile the Architectural and Environmental Imagery Expression Series, leaving behind a valuable record, which is truly commendable. Indeed, for the sake of countless students, as a teacher, it is a duty I cannot shirk. Teachers like Wu Xiaoqi from the Environmental Art Department and radar from the Industrial Design Department at our school have taken the lead. We should all follow suit. I have a good working relationship with these teachers and sincerely wish them even greater achievements.
A few hundred words of introduction are the hardest to write. To achieve conciseness and clarity, it requires not only skill but also knowing where to start. After much deliberation and multiple revisions, I wrote this "plain language" as the preface.
Professor and Deputy Dean of the School of Design at the China Academy of Art, Doctoral Supervisor Wang Guoliang: Architectural and Environmental Imagery Expression is the foundation of environmental art and design, and it is increasingly valued as an important part of modern commercial competition bidding. We compiled this series of books to introduce the basic principles of architectural and environmental design, starting from hard-line sketches to colored rendering, and even to the widely used computer drawing techniques in modern applications. We aim to explain a complete and progressive learning method through our introduction. Through our guidance, beginners, especially students from similar professional institutions, can receive proper instruction and quickly master the professional techniques of architectural and environmental imagery expression, achieving twice the result with half the effort.
The Environmental Art Department at the China Academy of Art has always emphasized the mastery of watercolor rendering as a fundamental skill for students. In ink and wash rendering exercises, it focuses on inheriting the traditional Chinese humanistic spirit. This training method has been proven to be effective. Students' professional painting skills rank among the best in the country in similar institutions and have become the "signature skill" of students at the Environmental Art Department of the China Academy of Art.
