The Complete Collection of Lu Xun's Novels (Illustrated Edition) includes all the novels discovered so far by Lu Xun (1881-1936)—Nahan, Panghuang, and Gushi Xinbian, totaling thirty-three. Nahan includes fourteen novels written by Lu Xun between 1918 and 1922, along with one preface. Nahan is imbued with a strong anti-feudal passion, revealing profound social themes through exceptional artistic language and realistic techniques. Panghuang includes eleven novels written by Lu Xun between 1924 and 1925. Panghuang is marked by a deep concern for farmers and intellectuals living under the heavy oppression of feudal forces—"pitying their misfortune and resenting their lack of struggle." Its masterful use of the "painting eyes" and "sketching souls" technique in freehand brushwork, along with its rich and typical character portrayals, is noteworthy. Gushi Xinbian includes eight novels written by Lu Xun between 1922 and 1935, along with one preface. Gushi Xinbian takes a single element from myths, legends, and historical facts, adding touches of imagination, repurposing the past for the present. Through cartoon-like sketches, quick sketches, and exaggeration, it satirizes conventions and criticizes society.
