Dunya admired Pavel's "passion and stubbornness," and Pavel also thought Dunya was "different from other wealthy girls." Later, they met a few more times and gradually fell in love.
What is truly precious is life, and everyone only has one. A person should live their life in such a way that when looking back, they do not regret wasting their youth or feel ashamed of being mediocre. Only then, when facing death, can they say: "My entire life and all my energy have been dedicated to the most magnificent cause in the world—the struggle for the liberation of humanity."
As the son of a working-class family, Pavel Korchagin experienced the harsh realities of World War I, the October Revolution, the Civil War, and the period of economic recovery. He transformed his spontaneous resistance to the old life into conscious class consciousness. Pavel's heroism represents the rational sincerity of early Bolsheviks, where individual value and collective endeavor are in harmony in concept. The novel not only shapes the protagonist through a series of challenges but also expresses this sincere sentiment through moving monologues and thought-provoking maxims.
