Author: Xin Qiji
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2005-03-01
Features: The Xin Qiji introduced in this anthology is not the "ci poet" usually referred to, but a cultural elite figure with multiple identities—politician, military strategist, and literary artist. Therefore, without a thorough understanding of his extraordinary life experiences, unique personality, and distinct sense of subjectivity, it is insufficient to know the person or discuss his poetry. There are over 620 ci poems by Xin Qiji that have survived to this day, all of which can be confirmed to have been written after the Song Dynasty. Based on the author's life experiences and the evolution of his poetic style, the creation of Jiaxuan's ci poems can be roughly divided into five stages:
1. Jianghuai and Two Lakes Period (1163-1181);
2. Daihu Lake Period (1182-1192);
3. Minzhong Period (1192-1194);
4. Piquan Period (1194-1202);
5. Liangzhe, Jingkou, and Qianshan Period (1203-1027).
This anthology selects 96 of Jiaxuan's ci poems, including the finest works from these five stages. The dating and arrangement of the poems follow Deng Guangming's Jiaxuan Ci Bian Nian Jian Zhu (Zeng Ding Ban), and no further explanation is needed.
