The theme of Renmin University of China China Economic Development Report 2005 is "China’s Rural-Agricultural Issues in Urban-Rural Coordinated Development," focusing on how to address rural-agricultural issues by adhering to the principle of urban-rural comprehensive balance during the processes of marketization, globalization, and industrialization.
The report, presented in the form of individual chapters, elaborates on different aspects and perspectives of rural-agricultural issues through both theoretical and empirical analyses. It separately discusses the relationship between rural-agricultural issues and China’s economic growth, the urban-rural income gap and its determinants, the measurement of marketization in rural areas, institutional innovation in agricultural industrialization, the difficulties and solutions for township enterprises, the transfer of rural surplus labor and dual economic transformation during accelerated development, food security and macroeconomic performance, the institutional structure and policy orientation of rural finance in China, rural education and coordinated urban-rural socio-economic development, China’s rural-agricultural issues under open conditions, land system reform and farmers’ interests, and rural-agricultural issues during the process of urbanization.
The economic report balances description and analysis, highlighting analytical features; emphasizes quantitative and empirical analysis; and derives policy recommendations based on in-depth research.
