Features: Wu Lengxi, originally named Wu Shizhan, was from Xinhui, Guangdong. He joined the Communist Party of China in April 1938. In June 1938, he entered the Marxism-Leninism College in Yan'an and served as a researcher in the Marxism-Leninism Research Department. In 1946, he was responsible for the work of the Xinhua News Agency's International Department. In 1947, he became the secretary of the Xinhua News Agency's General Editorial Committee and headed the General Editor's Office. In 1948, he served as the director of the General Editorial Department and a member of the Editorial Committee of the Xinhua News Agency's General Headquarters. In February 1949, he became the deputy editor-in-chief of the Xinhua News Agency's General Headquarters. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, in October 1949, Wu Lengxi was appointed as the editor-in-chief of the Xinhua News Agency. In December 1951, he became the president of the Xinhua News Agency. In June 1957, he was appointed as the editor-in-chief of the People's Daily and simultaneously served as the president of the Xinhua News Agency. In July 1964, he was also appointed as the deputy minister of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China's Propaganda Department. After the overthrow of the "Gang of Four," in October 1976, Wu Lengxi participated in the temporary leading group responsible for establishing the preparatory committee for the compilation and publication of Mao Zedong's works. In March 1977, he was appointed as the deputy director of the office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China's editor-in-chief and vice secretary of the party committee. In April 1980, he became the secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, and from May 1980 to April 1982, he also served as the deputy director of the Research Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. In April 1982, he became the minister and secretary of the Ministry of Radio, Television and Culture. He had previously served as the chairman of the presidium of the China Journalists' Association and as the president of the first, second, third, and fourth governing boards of the China Radio and Television Society. He was a candidate member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China for the 11th and 12th Central Committees, a member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress for the third, fourth, and fifth terms, and a member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference for the seventh and eighth terms. This book is compiled and organized by the Research Institute of Xinhua News Agency based on some internal speeches and publicly published articles by Comrade Wu Lengxi in Xinhua News Agency, the People's Daily, and the Ministry of Radio, Television and Culture.
