Features: Coastal engineering is a discipline that has gradually developed through productive activities and environmental modification practices in coastal areas over long periods of time for human survival and development. By the 1950s, it had taken shape and the technical term emerged. After nearly half a century of large-scale engineering practices in coastal zone development, it has evolved into a new technical discipline. This book provides a comprehensive discussion on the subject. The entire book is divided into 10 chapters, which can be summarized into 4 groups of content: First, it explores the characteristics of coastal environments, the formation and development of coastal zone development and coastal engineering; second, it discusses related coastal dynamic factors, coastal sediment movement, beach evolution, and the interaction between waves and marine structures; third, it summarizes the content of coastal protection engineering, port engineering, and estuary management engineering, as well as the latest achievements in both domestic and international fields; fourth, it elaborates on field measurement methods and analytical research techniques for engineering environmental data, physical model validation tests of engineering schemes, and numerical simulation techniques. Finally, it introduces artificial island engineering, which intersects with offshore engineering, in the appendix. As a professional technical monograph, it provides readers with information on the development of the new discipline and serves as an important reference for scientists and engineers working in this field.
