Features: The Wanjiacha Diversion Project is a large-scale water transfer project completed in Shanxi Province in 2002. The project is highly challenging and technologically complex, earning it the title of a "challenging world-class project" from World Bank experts. During the construction phase and the initial stages of water delivery, the Shanxi-Yinnan Water Transfer Project Leadership Group implemented several effective measures to achieve sustainable operation of the project and promote the sustainable development of the water supply area. Based on scientific research and evidence, these measures included optimizing the allocation of various water sources in the supply area, establishing protected and restricted extraction zones to reverse the long-term over-extraction of groundwater, adjusting and reforming the water pricing system in the supply area, expanding the scope of the water supply area, broadening the water market, and establishing a water resources management and dispatching system. These efforts have preliminarily achieved significant social, economic, and environmental benefits, providing a successful model and reference for the construction and operation of large-scale water transfer projects under market economy conditions. This book is intended for use by planners, constructors, and management personnel of large-scale water conservancy projects, as well as government leaders in water-receiving areas of water transfer projects, and officials from departments such as planning, water affairs, pricing, and urban construction.
