Features: The United Nations human rights documents selected for this book reflect a very broad range of international human rights standards. In addition, there are more than fifty other United Nations human rights supplementary conventions, declarations, and several sets of international minimum rules and other generally recognized principles, which we may introduce in the future. The standards contained in these human rights documents further refine the international legal principles on a wide range of issues, such as women's rights, protection against racial discrimination, children's rights, and many other issues. The book includes the general comments and recommendations passed by the committees of six major human rights conventions, namely the Committee on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights, the Committee on Human Rights, the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, the Committee Against Torture, and the Committee on the Rights of the Child. It also features introductions to these committees and their functions, as well as interpretations of relevant convention articles. The book also introduces many key issues related to these human rights conventions, which we believe can help a broad readership better exercise their rights, assist government agencies and their staff in strengthening the protection of all human rights everywhere, aid scholars in their research on human rights, and help students learn about human rights law. Except for the parts noted by the editor, the content of this book is selected from United Nations documents and the working introductions of individual human rights convention committees. The editor has classified, organized, drafted chapters, titles, and indexes for these documents and compiled them into this book.
