This is the helm in my hands. My dear, remember too. A unique interpretation of the pirate legend. The red-haired noblewoman, master of both sword and gun, is actually of Chinese descent and carries the bloodline of pirates. Growing up in the ports of Italy, raised in a monastery, yet with a heart unwilling to be confined, she falls in love with her father's murderer, creates bloody scenes, becomes a killing pirate, and roams the seven seas, invincible. She admires the aesthetics of violence and portrays the love of a killer. This book takes me back five years ago. Back then, I was obsessed with the glorious Grand Ages of the Four Seas IV, sailing my fleet between Sofala in East Africa and the Cape of Good Hope at the end of the continent. I transported diamonds, brought back platinum, fought pirates, and searched for treasures. I equipped my crew with London's battleships and the strongest rapid-fire cannons, building invincible fortresses on the blue waters with double armor. I also traveled to the end of the Arctic, saw icebergs and the aurora, and once sailed across the vast Pacific Ocean. When food and water ran out, I spotted the supply port of Hawaii, and the sailor on the mast told me he saw a white whale, reefs, and whirlpools. We bombarded fierce sharks, and the haunting melody of the sirens filled my ears. Even now, I remember how after dominating the seven seas, I hesitated to enter the waters near Hangzhou, fearing that following the program would reveal the ending. I didn’t want the ending. I wanted to soar between the blue sky and the sea, forever and ever, riding the wind. I long for that era of exploration, when young people chased their dreams with sails, free and unbound. Yes, that was an era that has passed. Qingchuan’s works bring back that dream. Rose is a rose that blooms unrestrainedly in the sea breeze, and only in such an era of exploration could such a girl exist. I haven’t yet seen the face of Grand Ages of the Sea, but I can’t help but admire how an author who never sailed the seas could pursue such a boundless life in a game setting, writing a true story of the sea. We are born in cities confined by electronic components and concrete, but our hearts still yearn for the life of seagulls. The wind lifts our wings, and we soar. Qingchuan’s writing is clean and beautiful, without excessive decoration. The characters’ dialogue carries a slight foreign accent due to the background, but it doesn’t make it stiff; the dialogue remains lively and spirited, like the Caribbean sailors waving their iron hooks. The writing style has a cinematic feel, with rapid transitions and flashes, as if the scenery jumps and the characters’ eyes leap. Those lively words leap even more, bringing the panoramic view of the blue sea to life. It’s light, natural, and free of tedious descriptions or rigid transitions. The changing scenes are strung together like pearls—no, that’s not the right feeling. It’s more like the swift, sharp blade of a Damascus sword sweeping across the air. Sometimes, while reading, you can’t help but think, "What a beautiful rose." But in truth, I never paid attention to whether the protagonist Rose was beautiful, but her youthful vigor and sharpness were beautiful—a graceful arc, encompassing the girl’s subtlety and youthful strength. I’ve never seen a Chinese-written novel capture such a theme so beautifully. It’s a book worth reading.
