Features: Based on the reference to previous research, this book conducts a comparative systematic study on rural urbanization and its quality, and puts forward its own views and policy recommendations. The book is divided into 10 parts. The overall characteristics of rural urbanization development in China are as follows:
⑴ Rapid development speed since the reform and opening-up, with significant socio-economic benefits;
⑵ Significant regional disparities, with the eastern region developing much faster than the western region, and a higher density of townships around large cities;
⑶ An increase in the number of townships and a decrease in the number of townships, with a declining total number of small towns;
⑷ Urbanization lagging behind non-agriculturalization;
⑸ Rural urbanization is dominated by the construction of small towns, with diverse development types.
The quality of rural urbanization is a comprehensive concept that encompasses a wide range of aspects. It refers to the economic, social, and cultural conditions of county seats, townships, and rural communities in rural areas, as well as the speed of transformation from rural communities to urban communities. The basic methods for evaluating the quality of rural urbanization include the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), cluster analysis, and principal component analysis. These methods can quantify expert qualitative judgments, categorize variables with different socio-economic characteristics based on their attributes, and condense multiple indicators into a few comprehensive indicators.
The main methods for determining the weights of evaluation indicators include the AHP method, expert survey method, and error backpropagation neural network technology, among others. Based on the introduction of the above basic methods, this research report reviews the quality of rural urbanization in different regions such as Shandong, Henan, and Guizhou. It compares the differences in rural urbanization quality across regions and their causes, and proposes a basic procedure for evaluating the quality of rural urbanization.
