Features:
· Organized around the main thread of "Storage - Indexing - Query Processing - Query Optimization," spanning both XML-enabled databases and pure XML databases, covering all major aspects of XML database technology.
· Provides unique and insightful analysis and summaries, helping readers grasp key points and understand current research trends in XML database technology amidst a wealth of literature.
· Based on cutting-edge research achievements in the field of XML databases, both domestically and internationally, with references primarily from authoritative conferences and journals such as VLDB, ACM SIGMOD, IEEE ICDE, EDBT, VLDB Journal, Journal of Computers, and Journal of Software.
· Summarized from the author's years of research in the XML database field, representing the culmination of years of hard work. With the emergence of large amounts of XML data, how to effectively store, manage, and query this data has become a significant research topic. Currently, XML-based database technology is a hot research area in the database field. This book is an expansion of the author's doctoral dissertation and is divided into six chapters.
Chapter 1 introduces the foundational knowledge, including XML, DTD, XML Schema, XPath, and XQuery.
Chapter 2 reviews the storage structures, indexing techniques, and transaction management of pure XML databases after introducing XML data encoding schemes.
Chapter 3 discusses relational XML database technology. It first reviews various mapping methods from XML to relational storage, then focuses on newly proposed X-RESTORE indexing structures, relational storage models, and query middleware.
Chapter 4 discusses the computational strategies for XMI queries under X-RESTORE and the algorithm for converting XPath path expressions to SQL queries.
Chapter 5 discusses XML structure join techniques, including direct merge join algorithms for computing ancestor/descendant relationships (including parent/child relationships), cache-based merge join algorithms, and twig pattern join algorithms, as well as structure join algorithms for computing document position relationships.
Chapter 6 discusses XML query optimization techniques, primarily including query minimization, view queries, estimating query result sizes, and selecting join structures.
This book can serve as a textbook for graduate students or senior undergraduate students in computer science and related fields, as well as a reference for researchers or developers working on XML database research or applications.
