Features: The Advanced English Course (volume(s)) is a professional textbook designed for the learning characteristics of third-year students in English majors at institutions of higher learning, in accordance with the requirements of the "Teaching Syllabus for English Majors in Higher Education" issued by the Ministry of Education in April 2000. The distinctive features of this textbook are primarily reflected in the following aspects: First, the writing of this textbook breaks through the traditional mode of compiling advanced English reading materials, fully embodying the requirements of the new teaching syllabus for senior English majors. The new "Teaching Syllabus for English Majors in Higher Education" requires senior English majors to possess a considerable level of reading appreciation skills and a relatively extensive volume of reading. To meet this requirement, in order to further expand the reading volume and improve reading appreciation skills, this textbook adopts two sets of reading articles in each unit, each accompanied by corresponding detailed annotations and diverse exercises. The overall structure of the textbook is designed as follows: The book consists of 12 units in total; each unit includes two reading articles. Annotations and exercises are provided after each article. Second, in terms of selection, all 24 articles collected in this book are original modern English texts from the 20th century, without any or modifications, preserving the original style. The reading difficulty of the selected articles gradually increases from the unit to the twelfth unit. Moreover, the topics and genres of the articles are widely diverse, which is beneficial for students to broaden their knowledge and exposure to different styles. All the articles are rich in cultural connotations, making them suitable for in-depth analysis and appreciation.
