Features: The fundamental research on functional polymer synthetic materials involves interdisciplinary integration and cross-fertilization among organic synthesis chemistry, quantum chemistry, condensed matter physics, medicine, modern optics, and microelectronics. Consequently, their application research and practicalization also present a brand-new landscape. It is no exaggeration to say that without functional polymer synthetic materials, modern microelectronics technology, optical fiber communication technology, modern clinical medicine, and new energy sources would not be possible. Therefore, it is well-deserved to call functional polymer materials one of the new materials leading to the 21st century. Functional polymer materials are knowledge-intensive, high-value-added products. However, we must also realize that their development and research require high investment, and industrialization is fraught with competition and risk. The value of a material lies not only in its performance but more importantly in its application and commercial value. Only by comprehensively addressing a material's performance, processing and applicability, and economic benefits can it become a socially demanded commodity. We must carefully consider the substantial investment of human and financial resources in this regard. At the turn of the century, as humanity is about to step into the 21st century, the research and development of biotechnology, information science, and new materials will accelerate even faster, potentially leading to major breakthroughs and fostering new changes in social landscapes and human lives. After more than a decade of reform and opening up, China's comprehensive economic strength has significantly improved. Enhancing the quality of laborers and driving national economic development through technological progress has become a consensus. We should learn from advanced technologies abroad and draw on their successful experiences for our own use, striving to catch up with the international advanced level of functional polymer materials. To this end, we have specially invited experienced experts and scholars from different research fields to review the historical development, current status, and future trends of photosensitive polymer materials, ion exchange resins and adsorption materials, biomedical polymer materials, and magnetic recording materials based on their respective expertise. This is done with the aim of mutual learning and exchange.
