Features: This volume first introduces the capitals of France and the United Kingdom—London and Paris. As the birthplace of modern Western civilization, these cities gradually rose to prominence after the Middle Ages. Grand palaces, churches, museums, and art galleries are abundant, so while introducing the historical background and related anecdotes of these ancient buildings, it also reflects the development of European history and even the fields of painting, sculpture, literature, and drama from one side. Additionally, from the perspective of a designer, I couldn’t help but pay special attention to the measures these cities have taken in terms of urban development, construction, and the preservation of architectural heritage. The St. Paul’s Cathedral and Notre-Dame de Paris still shine brightly, the regeneration of the Thames waterfront and the vibrant energy of La Défense inspire us, while the new wing of the British Museum and the pyramid in front of the Louvre demonstrate a perfect blend of tradition and modernity. When we create future urban spaces, can we find some inspiration from these cases? Nowadays, traveling abroad is no longer an unattainable dream. I believe that in the near future, more and more people will step outside their borders to explore the famous historical sites and natural landscapes of different countries and experience the customs and cultures of various ethnic groups.
