Features: From spring to winter, the pace is swift, and the calendar of 2004 has turned to its last page. Like a growing tree, the "Ideas in Depth" column has added a new ring of growth and borne new fruits. In this year, the "Ideas in Depth" column published a total of 69 articles. We have compiled these articles into a collection titled "Ideas in Depth 2004." This is the eighth collection of the column. In 2004, it was a year when the entire Party and the people of the country deeply studied and implemented the important thought of "Three Represents," seriously implemented the spirit of the 16th National Congress and the Third, Fourth, and Fifth Plenary Sessions of the 16th Central Committee, and achieved fruitful results in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects. In the face of both opportunities and challenges at home and abroad, under the leadership of General Secretary Hu Jintao, the Party committees and governments at all levels earnestly implemented the scientific development concept, strengthened and improved macro-control, continued to advance reform and opening up, focused on solving prominent contradictions and issues in the economic operation, maintained a sound and rapid economic development momentum, and achieved remarkable achievements in all fields. The Fourth Plenary Session of the 16th Central Committee made a comprehensive plan for strengthening the Party's governance capacity, which promoted new and significant progress in Party construction. The theoretical publicity of People's Daily has always centered on the overall situation of the Party and the country's work, adhering to the correct public opinion guidance, broadening its scope, improving its quality, innovating its forms, and strengthening interaction, further expanding its advantages. The "Ideas in Depth" column closely aligns with the themes of theoretical publicity, continuously exploring and advancing while maintaining stability, highlighting its strengths and showcasing its characteristics. It has published a series of articles with strong ideological depth, relevance, and readability on deepening the understanding and implementation of the important thought of "Three Represents," establishing and implementing the scientific development concept, strengthening the Party's governance capacity, vigorously promoting the spirit of truth-seeking and pragmatism, and enhancing work in the field of ideology. These achievements are the result of the strong support from the authors and readers. For this, we express our heartfelt gratitude. At the same time, we also extend our sincere thanks to the Propaganda Department of the Shandong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, which co-sponsored the column this year, and to the China Publishing House, which has consistently undertaken the publication of the "Ideas in Depth" collections. The construction of ideological theory is the foundation of the Party's construction. Continuously strengthening and improving the theoretical publicity of Party newspapers is of great significance for advancing the Party's ideological and theoretical construction and enhancing its governance capacity. In the new year, we will continue to hold high the great banners of Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thought of "Three Represents," comprehensively promote and implement the scientific development concept, adhere to being close to reality, close to life, and close to the people, innovate in content, form, and methods, and strive to enhance the creativity, persuasiveness, and appeal of theoretical publicity, contributing to building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and continuously advancing the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
